The Story Behind Share Norfolk: A New Tool for Community Giving
Over the past year, a group of charitable funds in the Norfolk area has been coming together to find new ways to inspire giving and support the community. Known as the Norfolk Family of Funds, this group is made up of nine locally affiliated funds connected through the Nebraska Community Foundation. Together, they represent a diverse mix of family, business, and community-led efforts to make a lasting impact in Northeast Nebraska.
While each fund operates independently, the group began meeting regularly to collaborate, share ideas, and explore ways to amplify their collective impact. One of the earliest conversations centered around a shared vision: how can we bring multiple groups together to do good, more visibly and more easily?
That question led to a series of introductions and research calls—and ultimately, the discovery of a new platform called ShareGood. The group saw the potential right away. ShareGood offered a way to spotlight local nonprofits, simplify giving, and bring the spirit of generosity to life in one shared space. The decision to move forward came quickly. The rest, as they say, is history.
The local version of the platform, Share Norfolk, is launching this spring with a rollout to members of the Philanthropy Council of Northeast Nebraska. The platform will serve as the new home for the council’s annual Big Give event, a week long event that celebrates and supports area nonprofits. After the Big Give, ShareNorfolk will open up to additional nonprofit organizations in the region.
The Norfolk Family of Funds plans to continue meeting several times a year to grow their collaborative spirit and support a culture of giving in our community.
